I would love to improve my times without stressing too much on race day.  I would like to become a fitter and stronger runner.

Next Half Marathon:  Silver Comet Half Marathon on Saturday, October 30th. Completed: Time of 1:53:48 PR!

It would be pretty awesome to qualify for Boston, and I am now closer than I was before, but I still  have to knock just over 25 minutes off my time.

It was a beautiful morning for a half marathon with temperatures in the upper 40's at the start.  Overall, the race went well as I had my best time for this particular race.  I was less than a minute off my pr, which in my opinion is pretty darn good since this course is quite hilly and my pr was set on a flat course.  I had some technical problems early on as I thought my watch was ready to go at the start.  My watch wound up being about .4 of a mile off from the race, therefore, I used the watch for pacing instead of exact time.  I did start out too slow, but was able to correct things by about the third mile, where my splits were finally coming under a 9:00 minute/ mile pace.  The hills started around the 5.5 mile mark.  For every hill we went up, we either leveled off or went down and then waited for the next round to begin.  This lasted until the end where during the last mile, we went up, leveled off, went down and then leveled off, running around our infamous Sanford Stadium to finish the race.  I had a feeling my time would be decent when I could see the finish line before entering the stadium, and told myself that I could get under where I thought I would be.  My husband was there to see me at about the final 1/2 mile mark and then met me at the finish line.  I am always glad when it is done, but it was a really good race and way to start the day.

Nice work! And fast time for the hilly course. Looks like your marathon in November might be a PR this time around. What is the course and weather like there that time of the year. Looking at the master times and they seem to be very consistent. Does it sell out? My son is serving an LDS mission and is currently in Lanett, Al which seems very close. He told us of Ft. Benning in a recent email. I was thinking maybe I could sneak over there for a race and send him the newspaper results.

Bill- Thanks. I really need to update my site. I ran that race almost 3 years ago. The race is on a fairly flat, nice course with great support as there are military personnel assisting you throughout the course. Just seeing them pushed me to do my best. To my knowledge it did not sell out and was not a large race, which I prefer. The weather was in the low 30's and clear at the start, but warmed up to the low 50's by the time I crossed the finish line. I had my second best time at that race. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
