Short-Term Running Goals:

I would love to improve my times without stressing too much on race day.  I would like to become a fitter and stronger runner.

Next Half Marathon:  Silver Comet Half Marathon on Saturday, October 30th. Completed: Time of 1:53:48 PR!

Next Marathon: Soldier Marathon in Columbus, GA on Saturday, November 12th.  Completed: Time of 4:16:58
(better than last year)

Long-Term Running Goals:

It would be pretty awesome to qualify for Boston, and I am now closer than I was before, but I still  have to knock just over 25 minutes off my time.

It was a beautiful morning for a run. After sleeping in, I was out the door with my music.  I wasn't sure how tired my legs would feel after running 20 yesterday, but they felt alright.  I definitely felt some fatigue, but not enough to slow me down much.  I told myself that I would listen to my body regarding the distance, but I felt good enough to run 7 and did.

I also broke in a new pair of running shoes this morning.  It felt good to run in my new Nike Zoom Structure Triax 14's.

Since I didn't have to be at my sub job until 10:00 am, i decided to sleep until 6 and then go to the gym. My only mistake here was that I forgot that they were painting the gym. Even with the doors open, it was hard not to notice the fumes. It made my run a bit interesting. I was happy to complete 7, increasing the pace every couple of miles or so, and then increasing every 1/4 of a mile during the final mile. I felt a tad tired, but overall I was good.

Since I knew that I was only working a partial day, I chose to run after work.  From a timing standpoint this worked out well, unfortunately, my legs didn't really care for it.  My legs felt heavy for the first half and I am assuming that the headwind that I was encountering did not help the situation.  The temperature had also dropped a good 10 degrees since this morning, and included overcast skies.  By the time I finished I did start to feel a tad looser.

Since I had an appointment at 9:30 this morning, I decided to get up at 6:00am and go to the gym with my husband.  The paint smell wasn't nearly as bad as it was on Tuesday.  I felt a bit sluggish for the first few miles, not feeling really loose until at least the halfway point.  Maybe they were tired from working out yesterday afternoon.  I was happy to get the distance in as I wasn't sure how long I would have there since I was on my husband's schedule.  Needless to say, I am happy that I did it.

I also sent in my registration for the marathon this afternoon.  I guess this means that I am doing it.

I decided to take my dog with me today since he really needed the exercise.  Unfortunately, he seemed a little pooped after mile one.  He seemed to get his groove back after a short walk break.  When I came back, I then took my other dog for her first walk, since her surgery almost two weeks ago.

The winter clothes had their coming out party today.  Temperatures were in the upper 30's when we got started.  The gloves, warmer earband and tights were all on and necessary.  I also wore my new running shoes for the first time on a long run.  Everything went fine.  My friend stayed with me for the first 12.2 miles and then I finished up the final 2.8  on my own.  I didn't focus much on pace or time.  I felt good the whole time, outside of a runny nose, which coincides with cold weather running for me.
