I am running again!  It was really nice to get outside and run this morning.  With it being New Year's Day morning the roads were fairly empty.  The weather was mild and cloudy.  My legs felt good and stayed that way throughout my run.  I finished 9 miles in 1:33:26 and felt very good about it.  This was a nice way to start out the new year.

This was my last morning to sleep in before I head back to work.  Needless to say, I took advantage of it.  When I did get up, I walked the dogs and hit the streets.  It was cold but sunny.  I tuned into my music and just tried to enjoy myself.  I completed the distance in 1:22:40, which I am pleased with.

I am back on my sleep deprived work schedule.  I only needed one mile to get to my 10:00 minute per mile pace.  I felt good throughout with the only issue being that nose was still running (no pun intended) even indoors.  After my run, I then completed some core exercises that my husband has me doing.

I felt like garbage this morning.  This was only my 3rd morning to get up early and I felt wiped out.  I did get myself to the gym.  I completed 6 miles, getting to my 10:00 minute/ mile pace by mile 2.  By mile 4 or 5, I was able to get to a 9:50 minute/ mile pace, which I was happy about.  When I was done running, completed 3 out of the 4 core exercises that my husband has me doing.

My night's sleep includes about an hour on the couch before getting to bed.  I ran six miles at the gym.  Today was similar to yesterday as it only took a mile for me to get to my 10:00 minute/ mile pace.  I felt better than I did yesterday.  I was able to get to a 9:50/ mile pace by mile 4, which I was happy about.

I got up and ran with my friends this morning.  We ran 8 miles and then walked the last mile.  We were prepared to stop at 8, but decided to walk to cool down and just went the extra mile.  We had a nice run.  It was very relaxing.  It was cold, with the temperatures hovering around 35 degrees.

I had a good night's sleep, but unfortunately a lousy run.  It was very cold, about 20 degrees, but sunny.  I have a slight cough and the cold weather just didn't help the situation.  I was feeling the need to walk every so often just so that I could catch my breath.  I was relieved to get 6 miles in, with the last mile being the best of all of the miles.

There was up to 7 inches of snow on the ground this morning, which meant no running for me today (this is why I ran yesterday).  I have already found out that I will be off tomorrow as well.  I will either go out walking or finally bring the exercise bike in the house.

Today marks day 2 of being off from work due to snow/ ice.  We received about 7 inches or so of snow between Sunday evening and Monday morning.  We then received freezing rain Monday morning on top of the snow.  We learned sometime Monday or Tuesday that due to the fact that we rarely have weather this severe, Athens does not have any official snow plows.  There was machinery out there attempting to clear the main roads, but that was about it.  I decided to take a walk and check it all out.  It was not pretty.  The sidewalks and roads were a combination if snow and ice. There weren't too many cars out, but my gut feeling says that some of them did not need to be out there.  I turned around due to the fact that I was about to hit a very steep, icy hill.  Needless to say, it is also extremely cold out.

Day 3 - No work due to ice.  It has been so cold that any snow that has melted is turning into ice over night.  I decided to bring the exercise bike in the house that has been in the garage since we have moved.  Driving is just not the best idea.  I rode the bike for an hour and twenty minutes increasing my pace by one interval every 5 minutes and then going back down after I reached the highest tension.  It is definitely not the same as running, but at least it got my legs moving and working.  My bike showed a distance of 13.4 miles.  I have no clue how I should translate that into running miles.

Karen,

Hey! It is very strange here. Schools are closed again due to the ice. People are slowly trying to get back into the swing of things, but unfortunately it will become freezing again tonight and everything that melted will freeze again. We are being told to wait until daylight to do any driving.

Well, I attempted to run this morning.  I did not have to be at work until 11:00am due to the ice, so my husband and I decided to sleep in a bit and were at the gym by 8:00am.   Unfortunately, no one else was there.  The sign on the door stated that they would open by 9:00am.  Since I was dressed and ready to workout, we went back home and I hit the recumbant bike again for an hour and twenty minutes, completing the same interval workout I did yesterday.  The bike's odometer showed that I completed 12.9 miles.  Once again, nowhere near the same as running, but the legs received a workout and I broke a sweat.  My plan is to run tomorrow, either inside or out.  If the gym is not open, I recognize that it will be very cold, but it is time to start running again.

I finally got to run again today.  I went to the gym this morning and this time it was actually open.  It took a mile to get to my 10:00 minute/ mile pace.  At mile 4, I took it up to a 9:50 pace and maintained that for the rest of the way.  I completed my core work after my run.

Due to ice on the roads, students were not to report to school today, but teachers did have to be in by 11:00am.

I was finally able to run outside today.  I met a few members of my group at  a different location this morning so that we could run without worrying too much about the ice.  It was a tad boring, because it was repetitive and it was freezing.  Temperatures were in the mid 20's.   It was so cold that my fingers, even in gloves hurt for the first couple of miles.  Once I defrosted I felt good.  I ran the first 4 miles with a new member of our group. Once she left I joined the two others that remained and attempted to run with them the rest of the way.  I say attempted because for the most part I was trailing them.  I will say that running near them allowed me to pick the pace up.  I finished the distance in just over 1:40, which I was very happy about.  This was also my first double-digit run since the marathon.

I was back outside running this morning, this time, near my house.  Since I didn't get out the door until 10:30am, it wasn't that cold.  I even took off the gloves by mile 3.  I felt pretty good and made myself run up all of the hills.  There were still a few icy spots out there that I needed to be careful of.  A couple of sidewalks were just still ice.  My original plan was to complete 6-7 miles, therefore I was content to complete the 8.  I finished in 1:25:36, which I was happy about.

Today is a holiday for me, which is why I was able to sleep in.  After walking the dogs, I hit the streets for at least a 6 mile run.  Fortunately, I felt good enough to get 7 miles in, which I completed in just over an hour and fourteen minutes.  I was fine with the time.  It was cold and gloomy, but not freezing.

It was back to work for me today, which is one of the reasons my sleep time is less than it has been.  I actually slept less than that due to waking up multiple times.  I ran at the gym and ran at my recent usual pace.  I was at a 10;00 minute mile by the start of mile 2 and was running at a 9:50 pace at the start of mile 4.  My legs felt alright, but unfortunately other parts of me didn't, which for the most part is my own fault.  Live and learn!

I decided to run after work this afternoon so that I can sleep tomorrow morning.  I was able to get off work on time and get home.  I was out the door by 4:45, which was good.  Unfortunately, my legs felt very heavy.  I don't think that I really got into a groove until the last mile.  I was happy to finish before the sun went down completely.

I ran at the gym this morning and then completed 3 out of 4 of the core exercises that I am trying to include three days a week.  It took just the one mile to get to a 10:00 minute / mile pace.  I then took it up to a 9:50 pace for the last couple of miles.  I felt alright.  My original plan was to get 6 miles in, but due to an extra 5 minutes of sleep and me obviously not moving fast enough, I was only able to get 5 in.

It was another cold morning here.  Temperatures hovered around 30-31 degrees.  It was so nice to run with a friend instead of by myself.  The pace was probably a tad slower than it could have been, but it was fine, especially since I woke up with a sore throat.  I am concerned that I am fighting something off.

With today's run, I hit 40 miles for the week, my first since the marathon.  Goal accomplished!

I had a good run this morning.  I got out to a late start since we slept in after going out last night.  I didn't hit the road to run until after 10:30am.  I also have a cold of some type, so I wasn't sure how I would feel.  I chose to run the hillier route near my house since I haven't run it in quite a while and because I am planning on running a hilly 5k in a couple of weeks.  I was able to run up all of the hills without walking.  I did go through a package of tissues while I was out there, but didn't necessarily slow down to a walk every time I needed one, which is progress for me.  I finished in 1:23:08, which I was happy about.  I also figured out how to figure out how long each mile is taking me on my watch.  I can't believe that it took me this long to figure it out.

I had a pretty decent run this morning.  The only issue that I had was having to stop every mile to blow my nose, as I have developed a head cold.  My legs and body felt pretty good.  I was at a 10:00 minute mile by the start of mile 2 and had myself running a 9:50 minute mile by mile 5.

I was only able to get in 3 sets of one of the core exercises that I was suppose to do.

I ran at the gym this morning since I have to work this evening.  It went alright outside of the fact that I still have a cold.  I had to stop multiple time to blow my nose.  When I was actually running, I had myself at a 10:00 minute mile by the start of mile 2 and hit a 9:50 mile by the start of mile 4.

I was only able to get in 3 sets of my core work before having to leave.

This run went alright this morning.  It was beautiful out, but unfortunately I overdressed.  I was fine, but would have been a bit more comfortable in shorts versus running tights.  I must still have remnants of my cold, because I went through a package of tissues within 6 plus miles.  I didn't think that I was going to make it to 8 miles, because of the lack of Kleenex, but fortunately, I was able to do it. I ran my hilly route into the next county and made sure that I ran up the hills.  I am running a hilly 5k on Saturday and am trying to prepare myself for it.

I ran after work today so that I could get the extra sleep in the morning.  I was able to leave work on time, but it was wet and cold outside, with temperatures in the mid 40's.  I got home and changed and checked on my dogs, one of which that had to go to the vet today unexpectedly.  He looked so pathetic with a bandage around his foot hobbling around the house.  Anyhow, I got out the door sans my watch since it became disconnected without me realizing it.  My legs felt heavy, which I have found is now common when I run after work.  It took me awhile, but I did get through the mileage with no major issues.

This is one of those races that reminded me as to why I am a runner.  I went into this race not feeling very confident.  I knew ahead of time that it would be a challenging aka hilly course.  My husband attempted to motivate me on the way there by playing some good 80's music.  By the time the race started, I was relaxed and told myself to just do the best that I can and whatever happens, don't walk!  My approach seemed to work.  We were running uphill right from the start.  Once we took our first turn, you could see the upcoming downhill and then the really big uphill.  I clocked the first mile in 8:15, which I considered alright considering.  The 2nd mile wasn't too bad although I could definitely tell that I was working.  I really tried to move as fast I could on any flat surfaces as well as the downhills.  I clocked the second mile in about 8:20.  The last mile plus took the longest.  There was some serious uphill running especially when we were about a half mile plus from the finish.  It was daunting, although I was proud of myself as I attempted to motivate a kid that I eventually passed.  Once we were up the final hill, I noticed that the finish was a bit further than I anticipated based on what my watch showed.  I finished with a clock time of 27:03, although my watch showed the distance at around 3.25, not 3.1.  I asked a few others that had the same watch and our readings were all around the same.  I was content with my time as most people were saying that they were about a couple of minutes off from their normal pace.

As far as the age group goes, the top female was in my age group and won the female overall, which gave me first place in our age group as far as the awards went.   The results show me in second, which is why I listed my age group place as one or two.  The award was some pottery in the form of a plate.

I ran this afternoon after work so that I could sleep a bit more this morning and to give my legs a bit more of a rest.  They were actually still sore today from my 5K on Saturday.  I will be honest, I really was not in the mood to run, but had mentally committed myself to do it.  I didn't get out of work until 4:30 due to some obligations there, which therefore delayed me getting home and out the door.  I was home, changed and out the door by 5:15 or so.  I took it slow and felt how slow I was going up the hills and then felt the soreness on the way down.  By getting the later start, I was also cutting it close as far as daylight hours go.  I realized that 5 miles would be about all I could get in.  I timed it fairly well as the rain began soon after I got home.

I was able to leave work on time, which was good.  I had to really push myself out the door and once again, my legs felt a bit tired by the time I got out there.  After a good 3 miles, I finally started loosening up and not feeling so fatigued.  I had told myself at least 6 miles, therefore getting 7 was a really good thing.  I also told myself that I had no excuse not to get 7 miles in.

I hit the treadmill bright and early at the gym. Fairly typical run: up to a 10:00 minute mile by the start of mile 2, 9:50 for miles 3 and 4, 9:40 for mile 5 and 9:30 for mile 6.  Outside of the nose running a bit, everything was fine.

It was a cold one this morning with temperatures in the upper 20's.  The people I was planning on meeting bailed at the last minute due to a late evening with the kids, but I did wind up running into (no pun intended) someone else that I knew and ran with her and her friend for the first 6 miles.  I then finished the last 5 on my own.  It went fairly well.  I noticed that my pace for a while was under a 10:00 minute mile, but then would catch myself slowing down.  We ran on a couple of streets that were new to me, which was a nice change although there was a slight incline.  Overall, I was happy with the way things went and happy to get 11 in.  First time that I have been over 10 since the marathon, which also took me to my minimum goal for the week, which was 35 miles.

I did not get nearly as much sleep as I wanted to since we went out last night.  I am really getting too old for these late nights, especially when I am working.  I did finally get myself out the door by 10:30 plus.  I had some iPod issues at first, but I was finally able to straighten that out.  The weather was gorgeous, one plus to starting late.  It had already started to warm-up by the time I got out there.  My run was not bad at all, but wasn't great. It really fell in the so-so range.  I am glad that I did it and I was happy when it was over as I was scheduled to have a busy day.

I ran at the gym this morning and felt pretty good considering the lack of sleep.  I was at my 10:00 minute mark by the start of mile 2 and stayed there until mile 5, basically because I forgot to increase the pace. I then took it to a 9:50 pace,  and finished the last mile at a 9:30 pace.  I needed to get to work early, which is why I stopped at 6 miles and did not do my core workout.

I had another good run this morning.  It wasn't as nice out as it was yesterday, but I was still able to put on the shorts.  I ran my other route today and listened to my music along the way.  I felt good the whole time and finished in 1:34:+.  There weren't as many hills on this course, but the ones that I did face I made myself run them and not walk.  Hopefully, I will continue to have good, solid runs as I have had the past few days.

This run was short because it was a joint venture between me and my dogs.  This was actually an off day for me.  I decided that as long as I got out of track practice early enough, that I would run with the dogs when I got home.  It was a nice evening and we all enjoyed it.  I had the energy and knew that the dogs needed to run.

It was in the upper 30's when we started.  I met a friend of mine at around 6:30 as well as a newcomer to our group and we ran 10 miles.  It was nice, casual and relaxing.

It was cold and wet for today's 10K.  Fortunately, I still managed to PR!  I finished the race in 52:06 (unofficially), which was about a minute and a half faster than the last 10K that I did, which was a 1 1/2 years ago. It rained on us the entire time.  The good thing was that the race didn't start until 10:00 am, which meant I could sleep in.  Based on the course map, the first half would contain the hills, which was accurate.  They weren't horrible, but I definitely felt as though I was breathing harder.  By the second half, I told myself just to try and pick up the pace since it would be either mostly flat or downhill from here.  I did just that.  The only downside, was that this girl passed at the very end.  I am making myself feel better by reminding myself that I was a lot older than her.  It took a while for the race people to place my name on the board for 3rd place in my age group.  I waited around for the awards ceremony only to find out they were only giving out awards to the top winners in each group.  It would have been nice to know that ahead of time as I was cold and had somewhere to be that afternoon.  It was a good race day and I am happy!

Unfortunately, I had to go into work today, due to the snow days that we had back in January.  To get my 10 miles in, I had to get outside just before 6:00am to get back in time.  Fortunately, I only had to run in the dark for at the most, a couple of miles.  It was quite cold, as the temperatures were back in the mid-30's.  I felt pretty good, even though my time doesn't reflect that as I finished in over an hour and 51 minutes.  Due to the cold, I once again became one with my tissues.

Walk breaks are a very good thing, I just call them "water breaks."

Have a good night!

My plan was to run 6 miles this morning, but I felt as though I needed the time at home to make sure that I was ready for work and especially my trip to New York to see my family.  I decided to cap today's effort at 5 miles so that I would relieve some stress.  Everything went better than expected considering the lousy night's sleep and the congestion that I had.

After an exhausting day yesterday, which was a combination of work and travel, I had to get up by 7:20 so that my parent's cleaning ladies could get started on the house.  I ran out in cold and blah weather.  Fortunately, the running was better than the weather.  I felt decent considering the fact that I was feeling a bit sick yesterday.  I have also been quite congested.  Needless to say, the cold air took care of that issue.  I wasn't the prettiest site out there, but I did run farther than I anticipated.

After a nice, but exhausting day yesterday, I slept in this morning, before going for my run.  It was definitely nicer out than it was yesterday.  There was a bit more traffic as I expected, but it wasn't bad at all.  Since I went to bed so early, I was able to get the same 8:00 am start as I did  yesterday. The bed that I sleep in at my parent's house is quite comfy.

Talk about a lousy run.  My legs were like jello and I had a mild headache.  This run took slow to a whole new level.  I capped it at 5 1/2 only because I had an appointment to get to.  I should have easily completed 6 - 7 miles this morning.  I will try again tomorrow and hope that it will be a better morning for a run.

It was once again nice to run after having a good, long night's sleep.  The only negative is that it was quite warm by the time I made it out for my run.  When I ran past the bank sign at just shy of my 3 mile mark it was already 84 degrees.  I will say that this was the best that I had felt in days.  I ran the "other" course that I run, although I had not run this one in quite a while and needed to.  This run is harder aka hillier and was much needed.  My time wasn't completely embarrassing as it has been.  I stopped at 6 just because it was quite toasty out.

I had a really nice run this morning.  I decided to run with the group this morning even though my main running buddy was not going to be there.  Because it was 6:30am, there was still a slight coolness in the air.  I am glad that I went.  I ran with one friend for a couple of miles who set the pace.  I then ran most of the last 8 on my own and still maintained a decent pace.  I finished the 10 miles in 1:42:30, which is really good for me these days.

I decided not to sleep in as late as I usually on Sundays.  I am trying to get more mileage in during the earlier part of the week, so that I don't have to run as far on Saturday.  I have an exam Saturday afternoon and don't want to feel to wiped out going into it.  Therefore, I was able to get in 8 miles this morning, which is one more than I have been doing on Sundays.  It felt as decent as it could have given my 8:30 start time.  The heat really wasn't a factor until close to the end.  My average pace according to my Nike GPS was 10:36, which is not great, but not bad either considering my performances over the past few months.  I felt good during my run, which is a nice way to go about it.

I was back outside running this morning after a pretty good nights' sleep.  It was a bit warmer than I would have liked by the time I started, which was about 9:00am.  I did find myself walking not a lot, but much more than I should have been.  I did get through it and realized that I will probably add in a day of running on Wednesday, so that my workout on Saturday, test day, is not too long.  I had planned on making up the distance with my other runs, but I don't think that it is going to work out that day.  My time was lousy, which is why I am not documenting the details.

I planned on this run to help with my mileage this weekend.  In a way, I am glad that I did.  I had a lousy night's sleep, waking up at 4:00am.  I finally got up out of bed at 5:00am and decided that I would just head out the door when the sun came up.  The weather was definitely better, but I was tired.  It took my legs a good couple of miles to get going.  After the first couple of miles, I did feel better.  I used this time to really try and breathe and just relax a bit.

I got a much later start this morning since I needed to wait for the A/C guy to come by.  It is way too hot in Georgia not to have the air conditioning work.  Once the guy left, I decided to run outside instead of the gym so that I could go ahead and get it done.  It also was not too suffocating outside even though it was already after 10:00am.  I actually had a pretty decent run,  I walked minimally and just maintained a nice pace outside.

Nice job. I'm the same way, I love finishing a run, and feel pretty good for a couple of hours afterwards.

Our temps are in the mid 90's today. Hottest for us so far this year.

Hey JD,

I have been unfortunately dealing with some work issues lately, so just getting my runs in and feeling good afterwards is good for me.

We have been over 90 degrees for close to a month now. It is brutal here by late morning. It is probably not going to get any better until at least September.

This was day 1 of 3 runs that I will be doing in New York while I am visiting my family.  I started off a bit slow, but felt alright.  Physically, I was fine, but mentally I was down.  Fortunately, I was able to think of some positive thoughts and wound up having a really good run.  I finished in just under 1:41, which is really good for me.  I felt good and had a nice weather to go along with it.  It was a nice way to start the weekend.

I slept in this morning since my body just didn't want to move and because I have no real plans for the day. By the time I got up and walked the dogs with my husband it was already after 8:30.  It was sunny, but not too bad yet.  It wasn't cool by any stretch of the imagination, but I brought my music with me and had a positive attitude while I was out there.  My minimum goal was to run 6 miles, but felt good enough for 7, which was an added bonus.

It was a bit of a struggle to get out of bed this morning, but I did, and eventually got out for my run.  When I walked my dogs this morning, I noticed what felt like a coolish breeze, which I thought would be great when I started running.  I did feel it every now and then, but unfortunately, I also noticed the blaring sun.  Today's run wasn't awful, but it wasn't so great either.  My mind was definitely on my lack of work situation.  Of course, I am happy that I completed it.

I decided to head to the gym this morning as it was quite warm out when I went to walk the dogs.  It was good for me to go there as I have been running at a faster pace there than outside.  I ran my typical run, going up a level at each mile and then going up every quarter of a mile for the last one.  I maxed out at a 9:05 pace.

I completed my workout with six sets of abdominal work.

I did not sleep well last night, therefore I was very happy to get my 10 miles in this morning.  There were three of us this morning for the first 8.5 miles, and then my friend and I finished off the last 1 1/2 together.  There was a slight coolness to the air when we started, but it didn't last that long.  We also ran into a lot of foot traffic this morning as sorority rush is going on this weekend on campus.

I did not get out the door as early as I had planned.  My plan was to get out the door before my husband and dogs got up, but that did not happen.  By the time we got the dogs walked and I was able to get outside a good 45 minutes to an hour had passed.  The sun had come out from behind the clouds, which was a concern.  Fortunately, my legs felt pretty good and I was able to run with very little walling.  I felt good enough to run beyond my minimum of 7 miles and complete 8 instead.  It was a great way to start the day!

I decided to get up with my husband this morning and head to the gym.  I am glad that I did, because my legs were kind of tired and running on the treadmill always pushes me a bit harder.  I followed my typical treadmill workout, by increasing the pace every mile and then increasing every 1/4 of a mile during mile 6.  I was done just under an hour, which I was happy about.

I decided to sleep in this morning, which meant that by the time I got up and walked the dogs, I didn't get out for my run until close to 8:45am.  Fortunately, it was kind of cool outside, although because I did get out so late, the sun was making its presence as well.  I had one of my better runs, averaging 10:27 per mile.  I know that this pace may sound terrible to most people, but with the way I have been running outside for the past few months, this was definitely a good day.

I got up with my husband this morning since I am scheduled to have a repair man stop by between 10 - 12pm.  I ran outside, which didn't feel too bad.  I was slow and felt that I would be almost from the start.  I did encounter a dog at the beginning and towards the end of my run.  In both cases, the dogs were trying to either escape from there owners or just wanted to say hello.  Fortunately, they were both friendly and allowed me to pick them up and hand them back to there people.  I decided to run sans the music this morning.

It is the strangest thing! The temperature actually dropped below 70 degrees for a few minutes and brought with it some air that wasn't stifling. I don't know how it has been in AZ, but we have been over 90 degrees for the majority of the summer. Now that I think of it, your summer has probably been worse.

After staying up late last night to complete my fantasy football draft, I was exhausted this morning.  I slept in with my husband (who was also tired) and got out the door a little after 8:30.  The good news was is that the air was a bit cool, the down side was that the sun was decided to join the party.  My legs felt tired, which I am assuming stems from yesterday's hilly run.  It was again slow today, but I did get through it, including a hill that I added that I haven't run up in months.  Happy to be done!

I am happy to report that I felt really good this morning.  I ran an average pace of 10:27, which may not sound good to most people, but it was pretty good for me lately.  I felt good the whole time.  I finally put some water out there and just enjoyed my music and the beautiful cool weather.

I haven't run this far since my last marathon in December.  It felt nice to be able to complete the distance and still feel pretty good.  My only issue was that I felt pain in my shin around mile 5 that never went away.  I am assuming that it is a shin splint, but am not sure.  It is uncomfortable now, but will hopefully subside as the day goes on.  The weather was cool, in the 50's.  I actually got to run in a long sleeve shirt!  It felt so nice not to be sweating profusely.

My husband and I slept in big time this morning.  We were both wiped out, especially after attending the Georgia game yesterday.  I was able to get out this morning and enjoy the cool weather.  It was overcast for the most part, but the sun did start to shine through towards the end.  My pace was slow, which surprised me at first, because I started out well.  My shin splint pain did feel better, but I did feel some new pain, which I think is my achilles or my lower calf.  It didn't stop me at all, but I did feel it with every step.  I am also seeing what might be some minor swelling on my shin.

My time was still terrible, but at least I felt better than when I started and I did run at least 6 miles.

Ideally, I would have just gotten up this morning as soon as I woke up and got myself out the door.  Instead, I slept in and got out close to 10:00am.  The down side of what I wound up doing is that I really didn't even want to run, whereas I wanted to more first thing this morning.  Anyhow, I did get out there and got 7 miles in, which I am happy about.  For a few minutes, I thought that I was only going to get 6 in, but recognized that there was no reason for me not to go 7 (except that I sorta-kinda had to use the restroom).  My legs felt a bit tired, but they were okay.

I was only scheduled to sub for a half a day, so I decided to run afterwards.  I was tired and a bit frustrated when I got home (the kids were a bit rough today).  It was also hot, but I got dressed and got myself out there.  It had to be in the mid-80's, but thankfully there was a breeze.  I struggled, but completed the distance.  There was definitely some walking involved, but I was glad that I did it when I was done.

I had a really good run this morning.  My normal running buddy couldn't make it this morning, so I ran with another woman who is usually out there every weekend.  She runs faster than I do, but needed to slow down a bit due to a leg issue.  This worked out well for both of us as it forced me to run faster and her to slow down.  We ran my first 13 together (she had already run 6 prior to my arrival), and then I ran the last 5 on my own.   I ran the distance in 2:57:07, which is an average pace of 9:50/ mile, which is great for me.  I was really happy. My pace for the run was suppose to be 10:02/ mile.   I felt good outside of the final two miles, where fatigue started to settle in.  It was also beautiful out, with temperatures in the 50's and sunny.  This was a great way to start the weekend.

It was another beautiful, cool morning.  I slept in and finally got outside to run around 10:30am.  My legs were a bit tired, not dead legs, but, hey you just ran a lot of miles on me yesterday tired.  I felt okay until around 4 1/2 miles when I started feeling pain on the side of my right knee.  I am not sure if it is a knee issue or an IT problem.  Either way, I thought that it would be best for me to stop at 6 miles versus going any further.

It was another beautiful and cool morning.  My legs felt better today than they did yesterday.  My stomach felt a bit off, but it didn't pose any problems out there.  I contemplated only running 6 miles, but then realized I was just making excuses and felt good enough to go 7.  My pace wasn't good, but thinking positively, I did pick up the pace from the beginning.

This was a run that I wasn't in the mood for that wound up going really well.  I didn't get out until 5:35pm, which I am not a big of the afternoon run, but I managed to maintain a good pace.  I finished in 50:50, which I was very happy about.  I stopped at 5, since we actually had plans that evening.

I was definitely tired this morning, but needed to get this run in since I will not be able to run tomorrow, since I will be fasting.  Since I have increased my long runs for the past four weeks, this week is my "take it easy" week.  I was scheduled to run 8 miles, but could only run 7 so that I could get to my sub job on time.  I started off feeling blah ( my mind was elsewhere), but then started feeling better about half way through.  I didn't take the pace up too much, since this was my long run (sort of).

I was not scheduled to work today and happy for it, since one of my dogs had to have surgery yesterday.  She will be in the hospital most of the week.  Since I had the time off, I was able to visit her for almost an hour.  Since we were not going to the hospital until noon, I ran after walking our other dog.  It was rainy, although not heavy, which made it kind of nice to run in.  I didn't run over the weekend, so my legs were kind of fresh ( although, I think that the stress of my dogs health made me feel a bit off).  I felt good running six and capped it there so that I could get showered and out the door to head to the vet hospital.

It was a beautiful morning for a run. After sleeping in, I was out the door with my music.  I wasn't sure how tired my legs would feel after running 20 yesterday, but they felt alright.  I definitely felt some fatigue, but not enough to slow me down much.  I told myself that I would listen to my body regarding the distance, but I felt good enough to run 7 and did.

I also broke in a new pair of running shoes this morning.  It felt good to run in my new Nike Zoom Structure Triax 14's.

Since I didn't have to be at my sub job until 10:00 am, i decided to sleep until 6 and then go to the gym. My only mistake here was that I forgot that they were painting the gym. Even with the doors open, it was hard not to notice the fumes. It made my run a bit interesting. I was happy to complete 7, increasing the pace every couple of miles or so, and then increasing every 1/4 of a mile during the final mile. I felt a tad tired, but overall I was good.

Since I knew that I was only working a partial day, I chose to run after work.  From a timing standpoint this worked out well, unfortunately, my legs didn't really care for it.  My legs felt heavy for the first half and I am assuming that the headwind that I was encountering did not help the situation.  The temperature had also dropped a good 10 degrees since this morning, and included overcast skies.  By the time I finished I did start to feel a tad looser.

Since I had an appointment at 9:30 this morning, I decided to get up at 6:00am and go to the gym with my husband.  The paint smell wasn't nearly as bad as it was on Tuesday.  I felt a bit sluggish for the first few miles, not feeling really loose until at least the halfway point.  Maybe they were tired from working out yesterday afternoon.  I was happy to get the distance in as I wasn't sure how long I would have there since I was on my husband's schedule.  Needless to say, I am happy that I did it.

I also sent in my registration for the marathon this afternoon.  I guess this means that I am doing it.

I had to push myself to complete 7 as I was ready to stop at 6.  Hopefully, my next run will be a better one.

Last night, I decided that I was in the mood to run this morning.  I didn't feel that pang to sleep in.  I was tired when I got up, but had no regrets.  The only downside was that our gym is being painted and the fumes were making my nose run (no pun intended) and my head felt a tad funky.  For safety reasons, I was better off there than running from home.  I felt pretty good otherwise.  The only other downside to the Monday morning run at the gym is the lack of decent programming at 5:00am.  I usually get to see a replay from one of Saturday's football games.  Thankfully, SportsCenter or something similar will start by 5:30am.

I can honestly say that I am happy that this run is over. It went fine, but I definitely found myself thinking about it as the week progressed.  One of my goals during this round of training was to not stress myself out.  My friend was able to run with me at the last minute, which was great.  She ran the first 12 miles with me, so that I was only doing 8 on my own.  I found that my legs and feet were getting a bit tired by those last few miles.  Hopefully, the adrenaline of the marathon will get me going in a couple of weeks.

I was also happy that I was able to hit 50 miles for the week.

After a terrible night's sleep, I was actually happy to get up and go run.  Once again, the gym smelled like paint, which was got to me the first few miles, but then I got used to it.  I decided to increase the incline today since the marathon will have a hill just prior to mile 2.  I took it up to 1 /2, 2 and then 2 1/2.  I slowly brought it down and maintained the 1 1/2 up until the last mile, which I ran at my typical incline of 1.  I increased the pace after every mile, getting below a 9 minute mile for the last half a mile.  I felt good.

I then ran mile 3 at a pace of 9:23 and mile 4 at 9:35.  Miles 5 and 6 were both done at a 10:01 pace.  I felt good and ran up every hill.  Miles 3 and 4, the marathon-pace ones were both fairly flat.  Mile 4 would have been faster if I hadn't taken my mind off the pace.  Once I realized that I had wandered off mentally, I was able to get right back on pace.  I finished in just over an hour, which I was happy about.

This turned out to be a great day to run a marathon!  I finished with my second best time of 4:16:58 (chip time), which I am very happy about (distance on my watch ws 26.43).  I also ran a negative split, which I thought was very cool as well.  I am still confirming my age group placement, since the results are inaccurate.  I was 39 on the day of the race, but turned 40 today, the date the results were posted.  The results are showing that I was 40 on race day.  I just emailed them to see if they can change it. Update: They fixed it!

The weather was cold at the start, 33 degrees, but warmed up to the mid 50's by the time I finished. It was sunny and gorgeous.  The course was very cool as we ran the first 7 miles in Fort Benning and then the rest was an out and back on the local Riverwalk.  There were soldiers out everywhere cheering us on and thanking us along the way.

I told myself going into this that I wanted to run relaxed, yet strong.  When this was done, I didn't want to have any regrets about my performance.  I started with the 4:25 pace group (the next highest was 4:10, but I didn't want to start to fast).  The pacer was a great guy named Sam that had so much energy.  He was a pleasure to run with, but I moved ahead after the first couple of miles since the pace seemed too slow.  I found a nice steady pace, keeping myself just ahead of the group.  Around mile 12,  a few of us started talking.  I wound up running with a guy named Tom, who had just run Chicago last month.  We wound up running the rest of the marathon together, which I know kept me on pace and if anything helped me kick it up a notch.  I never walked outside of the water stops, although we did stop for a restroom break at mile 16.  It was the fastest that I have ever gone to the bathroom and it was well worth it.  We picked up the pace for about a minute afterwards in the hopes of making up time.  I started to feel tired around mile 19, but we just kept counting down the miles.  I knew at this point that running with someone was going to make a huge difference.  We ran steady the whole rest of the way, but did try to pick it up during the last mile.  By the time we approached the last half mile, we stepped it up again.  Once I could see that finish line, I gave it everything I had.  It was very cool to finish out at the National Infantry Museum and have the soldier there giving our medal at the end, which looked like dogtags.  Overall, this was a great experience.

JG - Thank you very much. I loved the whole race! The organizers did a great job putting it on. The first 7 miles were on Ft. Benning, with the rest of it being out and back along the riverwalk. The scenery was beautiful and the soldiers were everywhere supporting us. Without sounding like a complete idiot, I believe that we ran on concrete, but I don't remember. I normally run on both, so I obviuosly didn't notice. It reminded me of a paved trail. If you go to the race's website photo section and click on the link at the bottom, you should be able to see photos from the race. My bib # was 443 (warning: these pictures are not attractive at all), but you should be able to see what the ground looked like along the riverwalk. The pacers that I did meet were really nice. I would recommend this race in a heartbeat!

Thanks as well for the birthday wishes.

Sounds nice, the river path looks asphalt, which is a good thing. The finish was on concrete, but I am guessing that was just a short section leading up to the museum. I kind of wish I would have accepted the opportunity to pace, but I was offered the 3:45 group, and I ran a marathon 3 weeks prior, so it would not have exactly been a walk in the park ... in fact I may have been in over my head! lol Perhaps another year!

Congrats again!!

Well, today was first day of running since the marathon on Saturday.  Since I was only going 3 miles and knew that I should take it easy, I brought my dog, Rocky with me.  Overall, we both did just fine.  It was kind of cool out with a lot of wind. My legs felt alright, although they were tired by the end.  When I got home with him, I took my other dog Cuddles, out for a short walk.  I could feel the fatigue at that point.  It was nice to get back into the swing of things.  I look forward to running on Saturday with my friends again.

The original plan was to run about 6-7 miles this morning, therefore, getting 9 in and feeling good was really nice.  My friend and I just did our thing and didn't worry about pace or hills.  We were both content with the distance completed.  In the past, I haven't really run more than 5 or 6 miles the week after a marathon, so I was pleasantly surprised with how my legs felt.

After a pretty decent night's sleep, I decided to head out for a morning run. It was cool and blah outside, which means that it is a good time to run. I felt pretty good out there, making sure that I ran all of the hills.  My pace wasn't anything to write home about, but I wasn't concerned or focused on that at all.  My goal for the day was 5 miles as I slowly start to increase my mileage again.

After a lousy day of subbing, I came home, walked one dog and then took the other one on a three mile run.  I was tired, but knew that it would be good for both of us to get moving.  I didn't concern myself about a time and just made sure that we both felt good.

With today off, I had the opportunity to sleep in and then go for a run.  As I did the other day, I walked one dog first for about a mile, and then came home and ran with the other one.  We ran a pleasant 4.1 miles outside of one minor issue when we ran into another dog.  Embarrassingly, I had to pick mine up and cover his eyes until the other dog passed.  It was quite windy, but otherwise a nice day for a run.

It was in the upper 30's at the start of my run this morning.  My husband and the dogs were sleeping, so I thought that I would take advantage of the moment.  Unfortunately, my legs/ body didn't think that this was the best idea.  I wasn't hurting or anything like that, but when I got to the hills, my legs just wanted to walk.  I am not worried about it as I am still increasing my mileage up again from the marathon, which was almost two weeks ago.  I have no regrets doing it, but it just wasn't pretty.

It was actually warmer than we anticipated this morning.  We ran a slightly different route this morning so that we could check out the lights downtown.  It was really pretty.  We had a nice 10-mile run, which we capped off with a mile walk.

After a very long night of sleep, which was obviously needed, I finally got out the door for my run.  It was one of those mornings that I would have been better off just getting up, eating and then get out the door, but that didn't happen.  By the time I did get started, I was mentally out of it.  I walked most of the hills and was just happy to finish.

Due to lousy weather, I decided to run at the gym this morning.  I am glad that I did, because it has been raining most of the day and the temperatures are slowly dropping.  This was the first time that I have been on the treadmill since the marathon.  It felt fast at my slow, warm-up pace.  I decided to maintain a 10-minute mile for miles 2-4 and then picked it up a tad for the last mile.

I completed 5 sets of abdominal work afterwards, which included three sets of planks and two sets of crunches.

This was not what I would call a great run.  I don't even think that it was due to the lack of sleep, since I didn't feel sluggish.  Once again, when I got to a 10:00 minute/ mile pace, I just wanted to stay there.  I took it up by mile 5, due to a combination of wanting to and really needing to go to the restroom.  Hopefully, tomorrow will be a better day.

I followed my run with 6 sets of abdominal exercises.

This run was definitely better than the one yesterday.  I went to the gym so that I didn't have to run in the dark.  My body felt a bit more alive on the treadmill.  I picked up the pace a bit earlier this time as I am slowly getting back to where I was before the marathon.

This morning was. colder than I anticipated.  I wore shorts and didn't feel warm until we were almost done.  My hands even hurt with gloves on until mile 9.  Overall the run went well, although a bit slow.  Once again, it was more about talking with friends than about a particular pace, especially now that I am not officially training for anything.

Once again, by the time I got outside to run, I wasn't as motivated.  It was cold and blah outside.  I brought my music with me today, which was nice, although it did sprinkle a little bit (which I was not expecting).  It was one of those runs that wasn't great, but wasn't bad either. My plan was to get 6 miles in, therefore, I accomplished my goal.

I ran at the gym this morning on not a whole lot of sleep, but I didn't feel bad.  The only thing that I did notice is that my run felt like it just dragged (same feeling yesterday as well).  I went back to increasing the pace one level after I finished the first mile and then increased the pace during mile 6 every 1/4 of a mile.

I finished my workout with 6 sets of abdominal work.

I told myself last night that I would either run this afternoon, if everything fell into place, or take the day off.  Fortunately, everything worked out, which included getting home at a good time, feeling decent and it not pouring outside.  Outside of one of my dogs not being too thrilled with me, everything went fine.  My time was actually good as well as I finished in 1:01:02.  With the way I have been running outside, I was very pleased.  Now, I get to sleep in tomorrow as well!

It was another cold run this morning.  I made sure to wear the running tights, but my hands were still frigid, even with gloves on.  When the sun came up, that seemed to help a bit, but the temperatures remained in the upper 30's during the duration of our run.  It was once again a nice chance to run and talk with friends.  We chose to walk mile 11, as our goal was to hit 10 miles.

I told myself this morning that I would run this afternoon if I was up to it.  Fortunately, after not feeling so hot earlier in the day, I felt much better this afternoon.  I was able to leave my sub job on time and get my run in before the sun went down.  The weather was nice and mild, cooling off as the sun dropped.  I also ran well, finishing in 59:33.  This may sound slow to anyone reading this, but I was very happy with the time, especially after being on my feet most of the day.  My runs outside tend to be slow, which is why I am happy with the outcome.  Now, I can sleep in again tomorrow morning.
