Running Accomplishments:

I have completed 13 marathons, 13 half marathons and a variety of shorter distances.  My PR in the marathon is now 4:11:44, December 2009.  I finished my last half on October 30, 2010 and set a new PR by 48 seconds with a time of 1:53:48. Next race: Athens Half Marathon- Sunday, October 21st.

Short-Term Running Goals:

I would love to improve my times without stressing too much on race day.  I would like to become a fitter and stronger runner.

Next Half Marathon:  Silver Comet Half Marathon on Saturday, October 30th. Completed: Time of 1:53:48 PR!

Next Marathon: Soldier Marathon in Columbus, GA on Saturday, November 12th.  Completed: Time of 4:16:58
(better than last year)

Long-Term Running Goals:

It would be pretty awesome to qualify for Boston, and I am now closer than I was before, but I still  have to knock just over 25 minutes off my time.

Personal:

I am married, no kids, two dogs.  I am a schoolteacher who moved in June 2009 from Florida to Georgia.

I woke up feeling pretty good this morning.  By the time I actually got up, I realized that it was wet and cold outside and would take myself to the gym.  Unfortunately, by the time we got there, I wasn't feeling as great as when I first woke up.  I got in 4 miles and was happy about it.  I allowed myself to take a walk break about every  1/2 a mile.  Once again, I am just happy to be back running that I don't mind any walk breaks that I feel are necessary.

Good, still runnin'! I have been a PE teacher the last year and a half (part time) and thinking seriously about going back to full time for next year. Not sure how to fit in all of the running with a full time job, I will have to come and get your advice! I hate getting up early 6 days a week to run. Might have to figure out how to run at night!!!

Congratulations on your 50K today! Now that is a great way to start the new year. The one thing I remind myself everytime I get up early is that I know that my run will be done before I get to work and that I won't have to worry about it fitting it in later. With 5 kids and a part-time job, I don't know how you do it. I am sure that you will find a way to make it as a fulltime teacher. Just think of all of those kids that you will have up and moving.

I started out running this morning, but unfortunately, had some unexpected pain/ cramping.  By the time I finished my 2nd mile, I knew that I was better off just walking.  I finished under an hour, which was fine considering.

It was cold this morning with temperatures in the mid-20's.  I ran with my friend and her daughter for the first 4 miles (her 18 year old daughter kept me going during miles 3 and 4).  After they left, I grabbed my music and went back the same way (forgot my watch at home so I wanted to go where I knew the mileage).  I felt a bit tired and realized that it may have had something to do with the first 4 miles.  I have been taking walk breaks during each mile for the last week, and didn't do so to start.  I made up for it while I was on my own, but overall, did run the majority of the time.

Unfortunately, I was not too pumped to get outside today and run (it took me too long to get out the door).  Thankfully, I got myself out there and got moving.  I was able to run most of the first 4 miles, but definitely did my share of walking during the last mile.  My goal this morning was 5 miles and I completed it.  I am not going to worry about time until my health is completely back to normal.  I am just happy to be running.

Some milder weather swept in which allowed us to run in shorts this morning.  It felt a bit weird as I am used to being in layers this time of year.  My friend and I were both feeling a bit sluggish this morning. It is so nice to be able to get a full night's sleep and then run.  I am still better off running as soon as I wake up, but realized that my time was best spent staying in with my husband.  By the time we got up and walked the dogs, I was finally out the door.  It took a bit to get going, but I did alright.  For the first time in quite a while, I hit 6 miles on a Sunday.

For the first time in quite a while, I ran 5 miles at the gym prior to work.  I reminded myself that I really did have the time to complete my run (even though I am definitely running slower than I used to) and still get home, shower, dry the hair and go.  I felt good, although I did allow myself to take a short walk break after each mile.

I got up this morning as I usually do on Saturday to run with my friends.  After last weeks unusually warm temperatures it was back to freezing again.  I ran the first 6 1/4 miles with my friend and then the last 1 3/4 on my own as she had to leave.  The run was on the slower side, but that was fine.  I am still happy just to be out there and moving.

After getting a full nights sleep, I was able to get myself out the door for my morning run.  It wound up being a beautiful morning for a run.  It was cold, but not where I felt the need for the earband and the gloves, although the nose was definitely running with me.  I didn't push myself as my goal was just to complete at least 6 miles and run the majority of it, which I did.

After attending my friend's daughter's wedding, I decided to sleep in a bit later and then go for my run.  It was a smart idea. I was still tired when I got up, but I was able to go about my routine and was running as the sun came up.  I never had to run alone in the dark and just enjoyed my music.  I ran the majority of the time and had one of my better runs since I had to take off.

It was so cold this morning with the temperature hovering around 24 degrees.  Thankfully, my friend and I dressed appropriately for our morning run.  We chose a different route than normal, which was  a nice change of scenery, although, mileage-wise it seemed to drag on.  We had a nice time given the chilly weather.  We ran the first 8.25 and walked the last part. Once again, nice way to start the day.

After waking up to let the dogs out, I attempted to go back to sleep, but realized that was not happenning.  I decided to get up and go for my run. My husband and dogs slept in and I hit the streets.  It was cold, but not nearly as frigid as yesterday.  It wound up being quite nice.  My pace is still slow, but I ran more of the hills and felt good throughout.

With a meeting today closer to home, I hit the gym a bit later than usual.  I felt pretty good, but had to remind myself that I did have time for 6 miles vs only 5.  My only issue was that I was following the clock on the wall, which was 5 minutes slow.  I realized around mile 5 as I was watching SportsCenter that I needed to pick up the pace so that I could get out of there.

I was back at the gym this starting getting a later start than usual due to a workshop that I had to go to.  The first 2-3 miles were a bit sluggish, but then I got into a nice groove by mile 4 and was able to finish strong.  I am slowly getting my pace up during those final miles (at least at the gym.).

The plan was to run at 6:30, but to heavy rain, I slept in and ran on my own from home.  When I started it wasn't raining, but did get rained between miles 2 and 3.  I felt pretty good the whole time.  My time was terrible, but I didn't find myself walking much, which was good considering the run was hilly.  It was a nice way to start the day.

After sleeping in and walking the dogs with my husband, I hit the pavement for my morning run.  The weather was pretty nice, but still cold.  Unfortunately, I didn't feel nearly as good as I did yesterday.  The hills from yesterday seemed steeper today.  I pushed myself to get my minimum of 6 and thankfully, was able to get in one more for a total of 7 miles.  My pace is still slow, but I am out there moving.

I also broke in a new pair of running shoes today, Nike Structure Triax 15.

Today was my 3rd day in a row at the gym.  I will not be able to run Saturday morning, so I chose to run my miles during the week.  It was really nice to feel pretty good for a 3rd straight day, as I once again finished my mileage in under an hour.

I was so happy to get a good night's sleep with daylight savings time beginning this weekend.  I ran this morning from my brother's house in upstate New York, where the temps were in the low 20's.  Fortunately, the sun was out and shined on the snow that covered everyones' lawns.  My run was a mix of running and walking as it is very hilly in this area.  It felt good to get out, therefore I didn't worry too much about time.  I have one more run to go in N.Y. before I head back home to Georgia.

It was kind of blah and misty out, but not too cold.  I was able to run a nice out and back course from my parents house this morning.  It isn't flat, but it is not that hilly either, which made for a good morning run.  I averaged a 10:13 pace, which worked for me.

It was nice to wake up in my own bed again.  My trip up north was nice, but it is always good to get home.  I got another 6-miler in this morning, although it wasn't nearly as good as yesterday's run.  It was cool and sunny, but I guess my legs didn't appreciated the hills near our home.  I will be taking at least the next couple days off due to a procedure I am having tomorrow.  My plan is to hit the pavement again on Friday, if I am allowed to.

WALKING MILES!  After having outpatient surgery on Wednesday, it was in my best interest to walk today.  This is first time exercising since I ran on Tuesday.  My friend and I walked for over two hours. We both attempted to use our watches, but we ran into technical difficulties.  We just walked all over town and it was really nice.  Mileage is approximate.  I also didn't get enough sellp as I woke up around 4 and never truly fell back to sleep.

After not being able to sleep, I decided to get up for my run,  My friend bailed on me due to the on/ off rain we were having this am.  I decided to go for it anyway.  I lucked out and ran the first 6 fairly dry. Unfortunately the skies opened and I was drenched.  Overall the run was good considering.  I actually had fun runnong in the rain. This was a nice way to start the weekend.

For the first time in I don't know how long, I ran a double.  I completed 6 miles at the gym this morning in just under an hour.  I then completed another 3, 1.8 with one dog and 1.2 with the other dog, averaging a 10:00 min/mile pace.  I had a training to go to today, which meant I was able to get home earlier than normal.  I also wasn't on my feet all day, which also helped.

I was finally back at the gym this morning.  My plan was to run yesterday morning, but sleep was needed instead.  I was tired as well today, but when in with a goal.  My plan was to run 6 today and then 9 on Saturday so that I hit 30 for the week.  I felt decent today and was able to pick up my pace throughout finishing in just under an hour.  Hopefully, Saturday will be even better.

After a lousy night's sleep, I am happy to report that I had a good run this morning.  Per my watch, I averaged 10:14 minute miles, which for a long run, it was a time that allowed me to feel content.  I felt pretty good throughout, outside of slightly achy knees and fatigue around the 6th mile.  This was a nice way to start the day.  I also hit my goal for the week of hitting 30 miles, the first time since my miscarraige.

I ran a double today to help add in some extra mileage.  I ran 6 in the morning at the gym, which went fairly well.  Sportscenter kept me going as I finished in just over 59 minutes.  I then ran the other 3 after work.  I ran the first 1.75 with one dog, came home and took the other one out for the final 1 1/4 miles.  For small dogs, they each managed to give me the push I needed.

I hit 10 miles for the first time in quite a while.  It was a beautiful morning, albeit a bit cold when we started.  My goal was at least 9, therefore, I am happy that 10 felt decent.  I ran with my friend for the first 6 miles, which was nice, but a tad slow.  I then ran the final four on my own, but at this point it was a bit hard to pick up the pace.  I was able to take things up a notch for the last couple of miles. A nice wayy to start the day.

I knew prior to the race that this was probably not going to go well.  While I was warming up, I noticed that it wasn't taking much for me to feel out of breath.  This was a trail run with all but the first 1/4 of a mile on a single-wide trail.  It was a really nice run, but I felt worn out within the first mile ( you know it is not a good sign when you are looking at your watch within the 1st mile).  It turns out that my watch was not in sync with the race clock, therefore I felt as though it was taking me longer than I thought to finish the race.  My watch showed that I was at just over 2.5 miles when I got to the finish line.  The last part of the race wass uphill and I wussed out and walked a bit.  I wasn't upset with my finish as much as I was disappointed.

To put things in perspective, this was my first race since the end of October and the first since my miscarraige in November and second outpatient surgery that I had exactly one month ago.  I am still getting back into the swing of things and need to keep this in mind.  I would like to race again sometime soon, which I think is a good sign. 

Some positives from the race was that it was a really nice course, well run, the weather was gorgeous and they gave out great goody bags.

I am typing after just hearing news of the Boston Marathon tragedy.  For once, being slow isn't a bad thing.  I did learn that some people I knew from Florida were there, but are okay.

I ran 5 miles this morning at a slower than normal pace since I am still sore from Saturday (I am planning on going to take tomorrow off). My original plan was to go 6, but I had to get to work a bit earlier than normal (that didn't go as I planned either).

It was a bit rainy when we got started this morning, but fortunately nothing heavy.  I ran the first 6 1/2 miles with my friend and her daughter and then ran the rest on my own.  I actually decided to challenge myself, although it was brief.  Since I was on my own, I decided to add this one hill that I had noticed yesterday from a distance.  I don't think I realized how big of hill it was until then and figured since I felt alright and wasn't in a rush that I would give it a shot.  It was just over half a mile towards downtown with the uphill part on the turnaround.  I am happy to report that I made it up without issue, although I did take a short break once I got to the top.  Once again, a nice way to start the weekend.

Today was my first run ever in the city of Seattle.  It is always fun to explore a new city.  I came across a couple of areas that I chose not to return to, but otherwise, it was nice.  The temperature was also nice and cool 60 degrees.

Day 2 of Seattle led me on a route of the waterfront. I spent a good 4+ miles running on a path with the rest of the mileage taking me to and from the hotel. To get from the waterfront back to the hotel, I always had either a steep hill, a lot of stairs or a combination of both.  Temperature was in the high 50's and sunny.

My final day of running in Seattle was probably the best as far as the route.  I was able to run the length of the waterfront (at least until the construction) and back an then added the additional mileage on the running path.  It was in the high 50's again, but today the sun was not out and shining.

WALKING MILES!  After a red-eye flight home, running was not in the cards for me this morning.  I still wanted to get some type of workout in, so I chose to walk in the heat instead.  It was actually quite a nice change of pace.  Walking does not provide the same feeling as walking does, but it was better than doing nothing at all.  I am assuming that I will crash from the lack of sleep some time this afternoon.

The lack of sleep finally caught up with me as I slept for almost 12 hours last night.  It was warm and humid by the time I made it out for my run.  I tried to push myself a bit harder than I have done in the past.  It was definitely harder running here in comparison to last week in Seattle, which was flatter and cool.  Summer is here and I am happy to be home.

Seattle was great, especially from a running standpoint. Running by the waterfront was nice and cool temperature-wise and very relaxing. It is has been a while since I have had three good running days in a row. You will love it there. Have a safe trip!

This wound up being a really nice 5k.  The race took place at one of our local parks.  It was a beautiful morning with a fairly flat course.  There were about 2-3 hills that made you work, but they were doable.  I was satisfied with my finish time as I thought my time would be slower when I hit the halfway mark.  I worked hard the entire time and remained positive.  Happy Saturday!

My friend from Tampa arrived this morning at 5:00am.  I went back to sleep after her arrival and she went to sleep.  Once we were both up, we decided to go for a run.  It was after 11am, but since it was overcast and mild out, it wasn't bad.  Unfortunately, I was not running well as walking seemed like a nice idea on more than one occasion.  She pushed me to run and I pushed her distance-wise as she has barely run more than four miles in quite a while.  About half-way through, we were rained on, but it was nice as it kept us cool.  It has been a few years since we have run together, therefore this was really nice.

I decided to join some of the others at 6:30 so that I could drop off a wedding present.  This gave me the opportunity to run with one of the women in our group who normally runs faster than I do.  I was able to keep up with her, but that was only  because she was running slower than she normally does.  It was nice to catch up and make my body move quicker than it has in awhile.  We ran the first 7.25 miles together and then ran the rest on my own.  It was amazing how I managed to slow down once I was alone.

After taking the day off yesterday from running (I did take the dogs on a relaxing two-mile walk), I was back outside this morning.  It was probably a  tad too warm to be running outdoors, but I chose to anyway.   I have been wearing my glasses the past couple of days instead of my contacts due to some eye irritation.  I didn't feeling like messing with my glasses and headphones at the gym, so I put on a visor to help block the sun and went for it (I don't feel the need for headphones when I run outside).  It was warm, upper 70's and sunny, but I was alright for the first 4 miles.  I noticed the heat a bit more for the final 2 1/4.  Once again, my time was not good, but in trying to be positive, it was better than how I did on Monday.

I can honestly say that I had a pretty good run today.  I decided to change my route a bit and run a loop that is around 2 miles long.  It felt a tad long at times, but it was a nice change and it was a bit flatter than my other routes that I take when running from home.  I ran miles 4 and 5 at a 10:01 pace, which for me, especially lately, is good (I know that this pace is slow for just about anyone out there that would read this, but I will take what I can get right now). My overall time was a good 3 minutes faster than what I have been doing.

I had the opportunity to run with my running buddy for the first time in almost two months.  Because we are slowly getting her back into the swing of things, she decided to limit herself to 5 miles and we just went at a pace she was comfortable with, including walking at times.  We were together for an hour and covered 5.25 miles.  I then went back out, turned on my music and ran another 5.35 miles.  I was concerned that my legs would feel sluggish from the slower pace, but I felt pretty good.  The only issue that I had was with my headphones.  There is nothing like starting the weekend off with a 10+ mile run.  Happy Saturday!

I had some trouble sleeping last night and almost stayed up when I let one of my dogs out.  I chose to attempt to go back to sleep, which I am glad that I did as I was able to get the rest that I needed.  When I did get up, I walked the dogs and then went for my run.  I thought that I may see some rain, but instead met the sun.  It wasn't too bad, especially considering that it is mid-late July.  My run actually went alright as I pushed myself.  With each mile, I ran faster with the exception of number five.  I finished in 1:02:55.

After having a pretty good 1st day back to work, I decided to take advantage of the mild temperatures and go for a run (this also would allow me to sleep in tomorrow).  This is one of the better outside runs that I have had in a long time.  I ran one of my typical routes near the house and completed the first 6 miles in just over an hour.  Outside of mile 5, I was able to pick up the pace after each mile.  It was such a nice feeling.

I was so tired this morning after not getting enough sleep last night.  We had friends that came into town and we didn't get to bed until late. My friend and I ran together for the first 6.4 miles, which was a combination of running and walking.  I then covered the final 4 miles on my own with a little help from my music.  The last few mile was interesting as I was dodging sorority girls on the sidewalk (sorority rush is wrapping up this weekend).  Only the last two that I ran past had the decency to move over for me.  I was very happy to get in the last few miles as my legs were tired for the first part.

I ran in Richmond, VA this morning with my brother.  He is preparing to run his first half in less than a couple of months.  This was our first run together.  We ran downtown, not really sure as to where we were going.  Our original plan was for 6 miles, but we cut it back after going up and back more than a few streets, really having no idea as to where we were.  The weather was comfortable and the company was great.

It was a beautiful morning for a run.  It was sunny (when the sun came up) and cool (upper 50's). I am officially in training as the Athens Half is just a few weeks away.  I wanted to hit at least 11 miles, which I was able to do.  One of the cool parts about today's run is that College Gameday is in town.  We ran to where they were set up and stayed briefly as they went on the air.  We then came back around to see it again.  My run itself was alright.  I felt good, but need at least one really good long run before the race.  I will plan to go 12 miles next weekend.

It was a beautiful morning for a race.  The temperatures were hovering around 50 degrees, while we watched the sun come up during our 1st mile.  My plan was to do my best and have no regrets when I was done.  I accomplished my goal.  I worked hard and felt good for the most part.  This second half of the course has its share of hills, nothing too awful, but enough where you are noticing them in your breathing and your legs.  I  In comparison to last year, I finished a couple of minutes slower, but I was in better shape last year.  Happy Running!

Since I was running on my own this morning and not going that far, I chose to get an extra hour of sleep and run from home.  I felt pretty good as I hit the local roads in mid 30 temperatures.  I listened to my music, thought way to much about work and finally decided that I would sign up for a 15k being held in January.

I decided to actually leave work on time today and head home so that I could get a run in (I also wanted to get that extra hour of sleep in the morning).  My legs felt a bit tired, but I still did alright.  My pace was decent considering I was up on my feel all day.

It was a bit on the cool side and it actually became cooler while we were out there.  My friend was finally able to run again.  We ran 6 miles together, walked 1 1/2 miles and then I ran the final 2.7 miles on my own.  It was really nice to catch up with each other.  I was also thankful that I was easily able to start running again after the walk break.

I had a really nice run this morning.  The temperature was in the mid 30's when we started.  I ran with my group, minus my running buddy who was out of town.  My group runs faster than I do, therefore they pushed me quite a bit.  I always feel bad when I run with them, because I know I am holding someone back, but I must admit the company is nice.  I did bring my music for when they were ready to push forward, which was fine with me.  I finished the first 10 miles in under 1:39:00, which I was very happy about.  That means I was able to push myself on my own as well as with the others.  Happy Saturday!

Happy Thanksgiving!  It was cold this morning with temperatures hovering in the upper 20's.  Thankfully, I know how to dress for this type of weather and it was not windy.  After the first couple of miles, outside of having to blow my nose, the cold didn't bother me. I ran this morning from my parents house in NY.  I made the mistake of not plugging in my watch the night before, therefore, I was not sure how long it would last.  It was cold, with temps around 30.  I chose to bring my music and see where the roads would take me.  I was able to get approximately 8 miles in, which I was good with.  I seemed to be maintaining an under 10 minute mile pace, although I can't be sure as my watch died on me at mile 7.4.
