Running Accomplishments:

I have completed 13 marathons, 13 half marathons and a variety of shorter distances.  My PR in the marathon is now 4:11:44, December 2009.  I finished my last half on October 30, 2010 and set a new PR by 48 seconds with a time of 1:53:48. Next race: Athens Half Marathon- Sunday, October 21st.

Short-Term Running Goals:

I would love to improve my times without stressing too much on race day.  I would like to become a fitter and stronger runner.

Next Half Marathon:  Silver Comet Half Marathon on Saturday, October 30th. Completed: Time of 1:53:48 PR!

Next Marathon: Soldier Marathon in Columbus, GA on Saturday, November 12th.  Completed: Time of 4:16:58
(better than last year)

Long-Term Running Goals:

It would be pretty awesome to qualify for Boston, and I am now closer than I was before, but I still  have to knock just over 25 minutes off my time.

Personal:

I am married, no kids, two dogs.  I am a schoolteacher who moved in June 2009 from Florida to Georgia.

After a decent night's sleep, I was ready to get up around 7:00am and go for a run.  It was cold, but sunny out.  I listened to some music and just tried to clear my head.  When all was said and done, I finished averaging a 10:29 pace.  Outside of my nose running the entire time, I felt fine.

I was able to sleep in a tad later than normal for a running day.  I went over to the gym and ran 6 miles in just under 59 minutes.  Outside of a slight pain that I felt on the top of my knee, I felt fine.  As of right now, I am assuming that it is nothing to worry about.  After my run, I completed 6 sets of abdominal work.

I was back at the gym this morning.  I am finally starting to feel the fatigue from working a lot and not getting enough sleep.  Fortunately, it did not affect my run as it went very well this morning.  I felt good and kept my usual pace.

I was very tired this morning after completing my first week of work.  We took it easy for the most part.  I ran the first 8 1/4 miles with my friend and then completed the last 1 3/4 on my own.

It was so nice to get a full night's sleep.  I worked when I first got up and then went for a run when I was done.  I felt pretty good out there and just tried to relax and listen to my music.  My average pace was a 10:26 per mile.

Sports Center is one of the best shows on TV. For the most part, it highlights accomplishments and the best things that happen. It's very uplifting.

It was cold this morning as temperatures were in the mid-20's when we started.  My friend that I usually run with had to back out at the last minute, therefore, I ran with the faster people.  Of course, this pushed me, which was a good thing.  I ran the first 5 1/2 miles with them and then turned around as they were going longer.  I was happy that I was able to maintain about a 9:30 pace once I was on my own.  I finished the 11 miles in 1:47:+, which I was very happy about.  This was a great way to start the weekend.

After sleeping in and walking the dogs with my husband, I was finally able to get out on my run.  It was cold, but not nearly as bad as yesterday.  I put on my music and went for it.  I ran my typical route to start, but then changed it up a bit.  It worked out well as I wound up running 8 miles, one more that I had planned.  My average pace was just over 10:30 minute miles.  All is good!

It was a mild morning, with temperatures in the low 50's.  I ran the first 6 miles with my friend and then ran the last four on my run.  I thought that I would make it through without being rained on, but I was hit with it during my last mile.  Fortunately, I didn't wait to run later on in the day as the weather became worse.

I don't know what the real breakdown was, but I can tell you that this was a hilly 5K.  My legs were definitely tired.  I ran the first mile in 8:00, mile 2 in 8:25 and finished the last 1 + in 10:07.  I will say that my Garmin watch had a final distance of 3.26.  A friend of mine said that her watch also recorded the same distance.  I finished in the top 30%.  I was fine with the results and surprised by the 1st place finish.

Since we are furloughed from work today, I was able to sleep in and then go for my run.  It was quite cold out, but thankfully, it did warm up a tad as I was running.  It was sunny out and I just enjoyed the run with some music.  My minimum goal was six miles, so I am happy that I felt good enough to run the extra 1.2 miles.

It was a wet run this morning, with temps around 50 degrees.  I was able to get out the door by 7:45, mainly because I couldn't sleep (a lot is going at work).  I decided just to get up, eat and go.  It rained on me the entire team.  It was misty when I started, but turned into showers on multiple occasions.  Overall, I didn't mind it.  I was glad that I finished when I did, because I was really starting to feel my wet clothes.

I was back at the gym this morning and felt wiped out.  I worked until about 10:00 pm after being at work until 6:00pm.  I also didn't eat the proper mix of vegetables and carbohydrates that led to G.I. issues.  I was happy to make it through my six miles.

I woke up this morning planning on meeting my friends, but with awful weather in the area, that didn't quite happen.  After a few texts and hearing more rain falling, I decided to work for awhile and hoped the weather would clear up.  After finishing Thursday's lesson plans and starting Friday's, I noticed that the rain had lightened and decided to take my chances.  I lucked out as it still was raining, but never was hit with the bad storms that I was concerned about.  The rain did pick up by the last mile and mother nature was calling so I decided to stop when I did.  I was fine with it as the weather had been atrocious.  I was happy to get it in and not have to run at the gym.

WALKING MILES.  I walked these miles with my brother and his dog.  My niece did join us for the first mile, but my sister-in-law had to pick her up (she is only 4 1/2).  The route was hilly and it was cold.  It was a nice change from the usual plan.

After a good nights sleep, I headed out for my run near my parent's house in New York.  It was a bit cold out, but nice.  I was able to run an out and back that kept me on the sidewalks and out of the traffic.  I finished in 58:07, which I was very happy about, given that I usually only run that pace on the treadmill.

After flying back from New York, I slept in this morning as the sleep was definitely needed.  After walking the dogs, I hit the pavement.  Unfortunately, my times were back to where they were when I left.  My typical run by my house is hillier than the one I ran by my parent's house the past two days, but I also noticed that I did slow to a walk multiple times.  They weren't long breaks, but breaks nonetheless.  As usual, I did finish, therefore, I am content.

Due to scheduling issues, I chose to run a double today.  I got up at my normal time and went to the gym.  I struggled a bit at the start as I am not feeling 100%.  I did manage to finish the first 6 miles under an hour as I really pushed myself through the last mile, taking the pace to an 8:34 mile by the end.

I ran the second 6 after work.  I got myself out of the classroom by 4:15pm and after a stop at the store, got myself home and back at the door.  It was warm outside with temperatures in the low to mid 80's.  Between the heat and mainly my tired legs, I struggled through this run.  I definitely walked a bit as the hills seemed like mountains.  I am happy to get it done, but really need to consider if this is worth doing again or racking it up to my first double in I don't know how long.

I went to the gym this morning hoping to run, but had to walk.  I have developed allergies that have brought on a cough.  This could brings up nastiness when I run, therefore, running inside did not work.  I attempted it twice, but would have stop and slow down to a walk.  I chose to walk at a 4 mph for most of the time, increasing it just a bit towards the end.  I also increased the incline to 1.5 and then 2.  It wasn't running, but at least I was able to do something.

My friends and I met this morning for our weekly Saturday run.  I wasn't sure if I would even be able to run after Thursday's incident.  Fortunately, I was able to run and could clear my throat and lungs when necessary outside.  At one point we considered stopping after 7 miles as allergy season was also affecting my friend, but then we chose to stick it our for one more mile.  I felt a bit more tired than usual, which I am attributing to the allergies.

By the time I was able to get out for my run, my energy felt sapped.  I decided to run after walking my dogs with my husband.  There was a gap of almost an hour from the time I was ready to the time we got back.  I was definitely slow moving and was dealing with the nose and lungs again needing to be cleared.  It took until about the halfway point, before I felt like I was in somewhat of a groove and not ready to stop at a moments notice.  At one point I thought that I would only make it through 6, therefore I am happy with the end result.

I chose to run a double today so that I could sleep until 6 instead of 4:15 tomorrow morning.  My first run at the gym went very well.  My legs felt light(ish) and I was able to finish strong.  Run number 2, not so much.  Once again, I was tired and my legs felt as though they were carrying extra weight.  I also am dealing with some shin pain, which felt fine during my run this morning, hurt all day when I was walking and then was still lingering for the pm run.  I will put some ice on it and hope for the best.

I had a really nice run this morning.  I was on my own as my friend was out of town for the holiday.  I slept in an hour later than usual, but still got out the door before my husband and the dogs were up.  I ran the hillier of my two main routes.  It has been at least a couple of months since I have run in this direction.  The weather was nice and cool.  I used the time to clear my head, which I was able to do.  I felt good and ran well, although my time didn't quite indicate that.

I put in a double today so that I could sleep in an extra day this week.  My run this morning went very well.  I was able to get to my 10 minute/ mile pace after about 3/4 of a mile.  I also took up the incline to a 1.5 since I read yesterday via the discussion forum that it would help.  I then increased my pace every mile after that until the final mile, where I increased the pace every 2/10 of a mile.  I finished at at less than a 9:00 minute mile.

My second run was quite slow, although today's run was the best that I have felt on a day where I have run twice.  There was also a tailwind that probably didn't help.  My time just didn't reflect it.  I also brought my music with me.

I went to the gym this morning, but it wasn't open. I stayed for an additional 10 minutes, but still not open.  I decided to head home and run from there, but thought that running in the dark at 5:15 was not the smartest move in the world.  I go to the gym at that hour because of the dark.  I decided to ride our recumbent bike instead for an hour at level 6 out of 8 for 45 minutes of the hour.  The bike showed that I covered 10 miles, so I am listing my running miles as 5.

I attempted to run at the gym this morning, but for the 2nd time in two weeks, it wasn't quite open.  After waiting for ten minutes, I decided to head home and run from there.  Since it was very early, I had my flashlight for those areas that did not have streetlights.  I was a bit uncomfortable during my first lap, but felt better during the second, third and final 9/10 of a mile.  I felt good running as I picked up the pace due to the darkness.  My main concern was feeling safe and after a bit, I was fine.

I met up with my Saturday morning running group this morning.  I ran with the faster girls today, which was good.  Every now and then I dropped back, but was able to stay with them for the most part.  I do think that they may have slowed down for me.  I finished in just under 1:42:00, which I was quite happy with.  Once again, a great way to start the weekend.

CYCLING Miles.  It was rainy this morning and after getting wet while walking the dogs, I did not feel like driving to the gym.  I chose instead to ride my exercise bike for an hour.  I rode at tension levels of 6-8 (8 is the highest) for 50 of the 60 minutes. The bike showed that I rode 10.3 miles, so I just cut it in half (for the most part) for running distance (I have no idea if there is an equivalent).

We slept in a tad too late this morning.  It was really nice, but from a running standpoint, not so good. I didn't get started until around 11:00am and it is already too warm for that time.  I got through it, but it wasn't pretty.

Today is my first official day of summer vacation(1st weekday). It was so nice sleeping in, walking the dogs and then going for my run.  I was actually out the door by around 8:15am, which was not bad at all.  My running wasn't so hot, but it was nice to get out there without the usual stress and fatigue.

It was gorgeous out this morning, with temperatures in the upper 50's.  My regular running buddy was out of town, but I did run with (or near) some of the others.  They were much faster than me, but were kind enough to loop around every now and then to make sure that I was still around.  Thanks to thier speed, I did pick up the pace and averaged about a 10:00 pace, although outside of one mile, all of the others were less than that pace.  The only downside was that I didn't have any one to talk to.  Overall, it was a really good run and a great way to start the weekend.

I went out to my usual running spot not knowing who was going to be there.  A few of us regulars were there, although I was planning on runnning the farthest for the day.  I stayed with the group for the first 3 miles and then completed the last 7 on my own.  I chose to run this way so that I was running an out and back course versus having to add on mileage at the end.  It went well as I averaged about a 10:04/ mile.  Once again, a great way to start the weekend.

WALKING MILES.  After staying overnight at my sister's house, I headed north to my brother's house so we could go for our usual Sunday walk when I visit.  He grabbed the dog and I had the baby in the stroller.  We decided to go the hillier of the two routes.  It was not an easy walk and I was definitely not used to pushing up a hill with my nephew in his stroller.  It was really good.  The only downside was that the dog hurt one of his pads and was bleeding and limping when we got back.  The poor thing looked pathetic.

I was exhausted after a long weekend and slept until almost 8:00 after going to bed a bit after 9:30.  I slept well and looked forward to my run.  It was cool out, which was really nice.  I decided to run a route that I did the last time I was up visiting.  It is a 6 mile route, 3 miles up and back, with sidewalks along all of the main roads.  There was a lot of traffic with all of the school buses out and about along with everyone else. I started off slowly but picked up the pace, finishing in just over an hour and 30 seconds.  I was happy with how I did.

This mileage is a combination of running and hiking.  I ran three miles at the hotel gym and then my husband and I went hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park.  It was so cool.  We climbed approximately 2 1/2 miles before turning around.  Our initial plan was to climb until the lake, but it was much further than we realized and a thunderstorm was approaching, which sounds much louder in the mountains.  We also still had an hour and a half drive back to Denver, so we thought that it would be best to turn around.  What a tiring, but wonderful day.  The Rocky Mountains really are amazing.

I had to get up early this morning for work purposes and knew that running beforehand would not be a wise idea.  My original thought is that I would just get up early the next few days.  Fortunately, when I got home today, I felt like getting my run in.  It was still quite humid, but it was overcast with potential for rain, which I didn't mind.  What I was not anticipating was how loose my legs would feel when I got started.  I could not believe how good they felt.  The rain started by around mile 2, which was fine since it was just hard enough to keep me cool, but not so hard that my shoes were soaked.  I ran an average pace of just under a 10:00 minute mile, which for me, running outside, was very positive.

By the time I woke up from sleeping in and walked the dogs, it was already after 9:00am, which meant it was warm outside.  I could have gone to the gym, but decided to just deal with the heat.  It wasn't too awful, although there were times that I walked, when I would have preferred not to.  On a positive note, I did run faster than I did yesterday, finishing about 2 minutes ahead of what I did at the 6 mile point.

I was not able to sleep in as I had planned.  With my mind racing as I am almost back to work, I decided just to get up.  After walking the dogs, I was out the door for my run.  The one positive of getting up earlier, is that it was a tad cooler starting at 7:30am.  I felt as though I ran better than yesterday, although my time was just a bit slower.  I was able to push myself not to stop and walk, which has been so tempting lately.  Needless to say, I got through it and am content that I was able to do so.

Now that I am back to work, almost, and had to get up early, I decided to head to the gym.  My legs felt good, not great, and remained loose,  I picked up the pace a bit earlier than usual as the 10:00 minute pace that I was running seemed a bit slow at the time.  I took up the pace one level and ran 9:50 for a bit longer than usual.  I maxed out during the last mile at under a 9:00 minute pace.

I see. As an AP teacher I have to say that I actually like that schedule since the AP exam is in early May. More time to prepare the kids before the exam, less time keeping them occupied after.

Thank you for asking. It has been good, but exhausting. For the first time in I can't remember how long, I did not run on a Sunday. I felt decent when I woke up this morning, but overwhelmed by my workload. I worked most of the day outside of a couple of hours when I took care of the shopping.

I was back at the gym this morning, but feltt beat.  I kept thinking on the drive over that maybe I need to highly consider working out after work a couple of days a week.  I would get more sleep and would probably eat less later in the day.  It is something to consider again.  At the gym, I had an issue with my regular treadmill.  I beleive that the belt was replaced as it looked new.  Unfortunatlely, I started to hear a weird noise, close to mile 2, which then led to a burning smell.  When I finishes my second mile, I thought that it would be best to move to a different treadmill.  I almost stopped at 5 miles due to time, but chose to finish out my 6.

I had a really good run this morning, as today was our first Gameday run of the season.  I joined my group, although my running buddy was not there.  I was pretty much on my own after just a few minutes, but that was actually okay with me.  I could run my own pace and not feel guilty that I was holding anyone back.  I completed the last 2 + miles on campus, which is always kind of neat as all of the tailgaters drinking and hanging out at 8 in the morning.  The sound of the marching band warming up was the icing on the cake.  I finished the first 10 in 1:42, which I was very happy about. Go Dawgs!

I had a really good run this morning.  My group was running twelve (although they (as in two of them) had already run a few before I had gotten there).  My plan was for at least 10, but since I have just signed up for my next half, which is 6 weeks away, I figured it was time to add a bit more.  I would up running a little over 11, which I was very happy about.  I did feel a bit fatigued, which seemed about right as I haven't gone above 10 in awhile.  I need to remember to start bringing a Clifblok with me for the next few weeks.  I finished the first 11 in about 1:53.  Once again, a nice way to start the weekend.

I decided to run outside this morning since I needed to get to work early for a meeting.  The air was nice and cool and I felt alright, but my brain was focused on work.  Time was lousy.  I am looking forward to a better run on Saturday.

I wound up having a really good run this morning.  I met up with my group, but was pretty much on my own for the first 6 + miles.  I then caught up with the couple of women that were ahead of me and we ran the rest together.  It really helped pass the time.  I averaged about a 10:01 pace, but most of my miles were under a 10:00 minute pace.  This was a great way to start the weekend.  My time was 2:03+.

As we prepare for the Athens Half, those of us running it decided that 8 miles would be a good distance. I managed to average a 10:00 minute pace, which I was happy about.  I ran with my group, actually running with people not just near them.  They definitely pushed me, which was good.  My watch read 1:40:00, when I was done.  It was also nice and cool, with temperatures in the low 60's.

I felt pretty good going into the race.  I had already prepared myself for not setting a personal best due to the constant fatigue from work.  My plan was to run my best and not have any regrets when I was done.  The race course was somewhat hilly, which I expected, but was much better than in previous years.  I started out a bit too far back due to a last minute bathroom stop.  My first mile was 9:30, but outside of two other miles, I was under 9 the rest of the time, including the last mile, which I ran in 8:22.  The weather was gorgeous, with temperatures in the upper 40's at the start.  As the sun started coming up, the sky was a beautiful blue.  I felt a bit of knee pain around mile 10 until the end, but I haven't noticed it since.  My legs did start to feel a bit jello-like, but I pushed myself through.  I only stopped at the water stops and ran my butt off down those hills to make up for the climbs.  Towards the end, I got to see myself on the Jumbotron at Sanford Stadium, which was pretty cool,  My husband also came out to see me finish, which made my morning.  My net time, according to active.com was 1:55:51.  My 16th place finish, put me in the top 11% in my age group.  I finished with a smile on my face and no regrets!

I did not intend to take four days off after my half.  I had a rough week at work, plus soreness for three days.  Thankfully, I had today off from work for our fall break.  I slept in and went to the gym with my husband.  I felt alright for the first two miles, but then my legs felt like deadweight. I essentially ran until my husband was done.  I was so happy to stop.  It felt good to run again, but I was beat.

Today was the first time that I have run in 2 1/2 weeks.  I ran the first mile without stopping, run/ walked mile 2 and then walked the last 5.  It was nice to be outside getting some distance in, even though it was mostly walking.  I finally felt a bit like my old self.  I am still dealing with my medical issue.  I plan on heading back to the doctor next week to see why I am not completely healed.  It has been 1 1/2 weeks since I had outpatient surgery.

I tried running again this morning, but I was not as successful as I was yesterday.  I barely made it a 1/4 of a mile before I needed to walk.  I was running up a slight hill near my house like I normally do, but I just felt winded.  I run/ walked mile 1 and walked the last 3 for the most part.  I finished the first 4 miles in an hour, which is good for walking, it just doesn't feel the same as running.  I know that this is going to take time.  I also know that I still need to see my doctor since something still isn't right.

It was freezing this morning, but thankfully sunny with a lack of wind.  My fingers hurt for at least 3-4 miles, even with gloves on.  I was hoping for at least 7, but was very happy to complete 8.  I walked the first mile on my own, and then met up with a friend of mine who ran a few miles before I got there.  It would be nice to run, but medically it is still not in my best interest.  Hopefully, I will be back to running soon.  I was hoping that the new medication that I am on would help, but I don't think that it is working like it should be.  I guess this means that I will continue to be a walker until I can do more.

I met up with my group this morning for our annual Tingle Jingle 5k.  This is not an official race, but just annual get together just before the Christmas holiday.  Unfortunately, it was cold and raining.  It was tolerable to run in, but I would have been soaked if I had walked in it.  Instead, I walked up and down one of the nearby parking decks a couple of times, about 6 levels.  We were also meeting there when everyone got back for a warm drink and a snack. 

Since I was unable to get my walk in as I had hoped for, I went to the gym with my husband in the early afternoon.  I walked while he pumped up.  It was only a couple of miles, but it was better than nothing.

I finally got the okay to run yesterday from my doctor.  It went better than I anticipated.  I thought that I would run part of the first couple of miles and then would have to walk the rest.  I was able a good part of each mile, averaging about 12:30 minute/ miles.  I walked the hills and anytime I felt as though I needed to walk (it was only 32 degrees, therefore I needed to catch my breath at times).  I listened to my music and just tried to enjoy this experience.  Hopefully, I will be able to do the same tomorrow.
