Running Accomplishments:

I have completed 13 marathons, 13 half marathons and a variety of shorter distances.  My PR in the marathon is now 4:11:44, December 2009.  I finished my last half on October 30, 2010 and set a new PR by 48 seconds with a time of 1:53:48. Next race: Athens Half Marathon- Sunday, October 21st.

Short-Term Running Goals:

I would love to improve my times without stressing too much on race day.  I would like to become a fitter and stronger runner.

Next Half Marathon:  Silver Comet Half Marathon on Saturday, October 30th. Completed: Time of 1:53:48 PR!

Next Marathon: Soldier Marathon in Columbus, GA on Saturday, November 12th.  Completed: Time of 4:16:58
(better than last year)

Long-Term Running Goals:

It would be pretty awesome to qualify for Boston, and I am now closer than I was before, but I still  have to knock just over 25 minutes off my time.

Personal:

I am married, no kids, two dogs.  I am a schoolteacher who moved in June 2009 from Florida to Georgia.

I went to the gym this morning for my run.  The only problem was that the gym was not quite open when I got there.  I am assuming that the girl who opens overslept as the gym was open by the time my husband arrived.  I turned around soon after arriving at the gym and went home to run outside.  Due to the time wasted driving,  I had to cut a mile of my run. The positive from all of this was that the air was cool with temperatures in the low 60's.

To get ready for my upcoming half-marathon in two weeks, I needed to get in a good, solid 12 mile run.  Thankfully, with my music joining me, I was able to do just that.  The weather was cool and comfortable and I felt good throughout.

It was so nice to get a full night's sleep before heading out for my run this morning.  It was also nice and cool with temperatures in the upper 40's-low 50's when I started.  I felt good the whole time finishing with an average pace of 10:18/ mile.

I decided to run outside this morning after getting a later than normal start.  Unfortunately, due to the hills and my slow pace I was only able to get 5.5 miles in.

I ran with my running buddy for the first 4+ miles. She was exhausted and needed to end early.  From there, I decided to run  a short part of the half-marathon course just to re-familiarize myself with the route and the hills involved.  I then finished up on Campus, running part of the last mile on the UGA track.  I was happy to get 10 in as I thought that I may not be up to it.

I decided to run outside and enjoy the cooler weather. I also wanted to get a few hills in before this Sunday's half marathon.  I felt alright, just trying to enjoy the weather.

It was a beautiful morning for a half marathon with temperatures in the upper 40's at the start.  Overall, the race went well as I had my best time for this particular race.  I was less than a minute off my pr, which in my opinion is pretty darn good since this course is quite hilly and my pr was set on a flat course.  I had some technical problems early on as I thought my watch was ready to go at the start.  My watch wound up being about .4 of a mile off from the race, therefore, I used the watch for pacing instead of exact time.  I did start out too slow, but was able to correct things by about the third mile, where my splits were finally coming under a 9:00 minute/ mile pace.  The hills started around the 5.5 mile mark.  For every hill we went up, we either leveled off or went down and then waited for the next round to begin.  This lasted until the end where during the last mile, we went up, leveled off, went down and then leveled off, running around our infamous Sanford Stadium to finish the race.  I had a feeling my time would be decent when I could see the finish line before entering the stadium, and told myself that I could get under where I thought I would be.  My husband was there to see me at about the final 1/2 mile mark and then met me at the finish line.  I am always glad when it is done, but it was a really good race and way to start the day.

This was my first run post half-marathon.  My legs were alright at first, but then wondered what I was doing.  I just tried to enjoy being back at it again and the shorter distance.
